The Right Way to Set Up a Calf

Jon Gevelinger demonstrates how to set up a calf by walking it into the correct position, rather than moving your calf's legs when at a standstill. Walking into your set up is fast and efficient and looks the most natural in the show ring.

Remember, you really only want to use your show stick for scratching. Avoid relying on it to poke and prod all of your calf’s feet into position. It’s easier and looks more natural to lead your calf, while watching the feet, and stop them when their legs are at in or close to show position. Then you only have to make small adjustments to their feet, rather than getting your calf off balance by picking up and moving each foot.
